What’s new 🆕:

• Change the library location in Preferences, you can change to a Dropbox or any other cloud drive to keep your data sync between devices.
• Hide/Unhide the book cover as you like. Just hover on the book cover and click.

What’s fixed 🐛:

• Fixed the bug that MyClippings.txt will be overwritten by default. If your have already been overwritten, check all the checkbox in Preferences -> Write back to Kindle, and then press sync.

Dropbox/Google Drive/One Drive/iCloud Sync

Knotes 1.6.0 provides the ability to change your data library location which enables us to sync data between devices using cloud drive like Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.

It as easy as two steps:

1. Open preferences, in General tab, change library path to a cloud drive folder.

   
   Then your data is stored in cloud now.

1. In your another computer. Open Knotes and change you library path to the cloud drive you just set and you will see your data is populated in your new device.

Hide/Unhide book cover

Some users found that Knotes matched a wrong book cover for a book. We are sorry for the inconvenient. So we added a feature for you to turn off the wrong cover by a simple click.

Just hover on the wrong cover and click then it will be hidden. If you want to turn it back on, just another click will do the trick.

Evernote Syncing Issue

As I mentioned in the newsletter, Evernote found a security issue in their SDK that the cause Knotes to not transmit data in HTTPS sometimes. So Evernote temporarily disabled the API key that Knotes used.

We worked closely with Evernote and started fixing it immediately, by publishing Knotes 1.5.0, the Evernote syncing issue is successfully resolved.

Tag configuration of Evernote

In menu Preferences -> Evernote, you can customize the tags of the notes exported to Evernote. For now Knotes, Book Title, Author are supported. You can turn on or off these tags.

《How to use Knotes》

Knotes now provides a tutorial book for beginner users. We introduced the layouts and basic features of Knotes by a tutorial book with some highlights and notes.

It will be there the first time you use Knotes, you can also enable it manually through menu Help -> Create Tutorial Book。

Copy a highlight or note to Clipboard 📋

Click the copy icon under you highlights, you can copy the text to clipboard.

Sort by locaton in ascending or descending order 🔤

If you have many highlights and notes in a book, it will be very inconvenient to scroll down all the way to the bottom every time. With sort by location in descending order, you can easy access the highlights and notes at bottom. By click the icon again, you can switch back to ascending order.

Now, let me introduce in detail:

Delete a book with right click 📘

Right click a book and click Delete this book, after confirmation, the whole book will be deleted. Deleted book will be stored in trashcan where you can recover the deleted.

Batch deletion of highlights/notes ❎

On the right side of a book, click the 🗑️ icon.

Select the highlights/notes you want to delete, and click the Delete Selected button to delete them after confirmation. Deleted highlights/notes will be stored in trashcan where you can recover the deleted.

Trashcan 🗑️（recover、clean）

With trashcan, you can easily recover deleted highlights/notes or clean them permanently.

Click the 🗑️ icon in the toolbar, you will see the trash can page. You can:

• Select some highlights/notes and click Recover selected to put them back to the book
• Select some highlights/notes and click Clean selected to clean them permanently
• Empty the whole trashcan by clicking Empty button on the left
• Exit trashcan view by clicking Back button

Export to Markdown with right click

Right click a book and click Export to Markdown, choose a place to save the exported Markdown file.

Copy as Markdown to clipboard with right click

Right click a book and click Copy as Markdown to clipboard to copy Markdown content.

Sync back to Kindle，you can configure the type you want to sync back

Now you can sync the edited highlights/notes back to Kindle My Clippings.txt sorted and grouped by book.

You can configure the types you want to sync back to Kindle in preferences -> General.

Don’t worry about Knotes corrupting your data, Knotes will save a backup of your old data to Kindle.

When syncing to Evernote: Knotes, book title, author tags will be added 🐘

Manually export a book to Evernote 🐘

When a book wasn’t sync to Evernote correctly, you can manually export the book to Evernote by right click the book and click Sync to Evernote.

Export highlights/notes by book to Evernote

Step by step guide:

1. Click the Evernote🐘 icon at tool bar, you will see a popup which asks you to choose Evernote service.
2. For users who reside in countries other than China, please choose Evernote. For Chinese users, 印象笔记 should be your choice.
   
3. After choosing a service, you will see the login window of Evernote. Input your account information and sign in. And then, authorize Knotes to access your account.
   
4. When authorization is successful, you will see the success page of Knotes.
5. Knotes will start the initial sync and export all your books to a notebook named Knotes. One note per book.

Tips:

• After each sync from your Kindle, Knotes will find out the books with new highlights/notes and update the corresponding notes in your Evernote account.
• Each time you edit or delete a highlight/note in one book, Knotes will update the corresponding note in your Evernote account.
• You can revoke Evernote authorization to Knotes in Preferences -> Evernote.

Windows platform support

Changing of My Clippings.txt path enabled

You can select the My Clippings.txt file in your Kindle’s documents folder. Or, alternatively, choose a local file is possible.

Wechat friends circle sharing (For Chinese users)

1. Click the Wechat icon below each highlight/note, you will see a QR code image。
2. Scan the QR code with your Wechat app, you will enter a web page.
3. Press and hold on the image, you will be able to save the image to your album.
4. Share the image from your album to your friends circle.

1. Import notification: number of highlights/notes imported
2. Onlie/Offline notification
3. Update notification
4. Activation success notification

Now, let me explain in detail how it works:

Edit / Delete highlights and notes

Hover your mouse on a highlight/note, and you will see the edit button. Click it and you will enter edit mode.

After edit, press the save button (check mark) to save changes, or press the cancel button (times) to discard changes.

Keyboard shortcuts

• ⌘ + F to search, esc to exit search mode
• ⌘ + E to export
• ⌘ + S to sync from Kindle (if connected)
• ⌘ + I to import from txt file
• ⌘ + 1 to hide side bar
• ⌘ + 2 to show side bar

Keyboard navigation

• Use arrow key ↑ to navigate to the book above current book
• Use arrow key ↓ to navigate to the book above current book
• When viewing a book, click anywhere in the book area, then you can use space key to scroll down page by page

Sort by Location / Time

• Press the Pin button to sort highlights and notes by location or page in ascending order.
• Press the Clock button to sort highlights and notes by time in ascending order.

Select and import from My Clippings.txt file

Now you can select any Kindle My Clippings.txt file from your disk to import to Knotes.

It’s a great way to import old backups.

You can import by:

• Menu bar File -> Import My Clippings.txt
• Or use keyboard shortcut ⌘ + I

UI language support for French🇫🇷, Portuguese🇵🇹 and Russian🇷🇺
